gpk-update-icon kills X11. Not sure how that can be an image problem (Load average is around 20 all the time)
The image lacks pdftex etc, so you can't make the PDF versions of the documentation (needs jadetex and teTeX packages installing)
Maybe tcsh or bash rather than csh for the gcin user account? More user friendly
Having subversion-freebsd installed and a source tree checked out anonymously ("svn co svn://svn.freebsd.org/base/head/") would be nice, perhaps both for head and stable/9
