The Dutch Documentation Project
This page describes the FreeBSD Dutch Documentation Project, started by RemkoLodder in 2004-09. An earlier attempt was made by Mark Huizer in 2001-09, which seemed unsuccessful. If you have any suggestions or updates for this page, contact RemkoLodder or ReneLadan. It might also be a good idea to read some of the [http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en/books/fdp-primer/ FDP Primer] to gain some initial knowledge.
Status
This section gives an overview of the current status of the translation. The name is that of the initial translator. The revision indicates the Subversion revision of the English version on which this translation is based. Use the %SOURCE% and %SRCID% tags to indicate this revision number in both the source file and the accompanying Makefile, e.g:
<!--
$FreeBSD: $
%SOURCE% en_US.ISO8859-1/books/faq/book.sgml
%SRCID% 39585
-->
The following status indicators are used:
Indicator |

Conventions
This section lists some conventions not covered in the FDP Primer. These are:
- Addressing the reader in a direct form is fine, but please use 'u' etc. instead of 'je' etc. to not possibly offend readers.
- For the concatenation of words, two possibilities exist: direct concatenation and concatenation using a dash '-'. The first one should (probably) be used when concatenating two Dutch words, the second one for everything else (e.g. 'bestandssysteem' , 'USB-stick').
Tips
This section gives some tips and/or some links to useful websites.
[http://freedictionary.org/ Free Dictionary] is an English dictionary with suggested alternatives for a given word. Useful when looking for a better translation of the given word than the one in mind.
[http://www.mijnwoordenboek.nl/ Mijn Woordenboek] contains online translations of words, common Dutch spelling mistakes, synonyms, and more.
[http://www.tecdic.com/ TecDic - The Technical Dictionary] translates technical words between Dutch and English.
